ROOM TO GROW

ROOM TO GROW

S. Holmes Sdlg SD100 (Unknown X Unknown) Mid Dormant Tetraploid
7", 16 buds, 36 H, 3 Way Branching.

ROOM TO GROW is pale pink lavender with a darker lavender chevron eye zone and clear green throat. The pattern will range from darker to lighter depending on the weather, but it has always been present. Some days the sepals are crispate and the petals are pinched.
As a seedling in the field, I used the pollen from the first bloom, but rarely set a pod because the plant was so small. Because I try to be very selective on plant habit, ROOM TO GROW was marked for selection, but not dug from the field. Just before Mike started to plow that field, I dug it and found a space in the display bed. Steve Moldovan told me many years ago that dormant seedlings could take a long time to show their plant habit and he was right. As a select seedling in the display beds ROOM TO GROW immediately grew almost two feed taller with nice branching. I always assumed that it wasn't happy in the very tight seedling field so all it needed was a little room to grow. That summer it became a very good pod parent too.
