HALAYA UBE(or purple yam) has a burgundy purple self with a faint darker burgundy purple eye and clear chartreuse throat. The color holds well throughout the day. HALAYA UBE was a favorite of many of the visitors who prefer the rounder forms because they liked the clear color and open form. Some days the flower will be pinch and on other days it is a large flower with sepals that casually roll back.
The first year that HALAYA UBE bloomed, Dan and Jackie Bachman stopped by for a visit. Jackie looked over the seedlings, and she when straight to this daylily and declared it the best daylily on the place. From that day forward it was hers to name. The excellent cook that Jackie is, you could count on her to pick a food name. HALAYA UBE is a purple yam used in Filipino dishes.
