GIANT RAY OF SUNSHINE first bloomed in the last row of the farthest seedling field. The plant was so tall and the bloom so big that it could be seen from the barn. Ray Rayburn, who is a round ruffled daylily fan, kept waving for me to come see the bloom, which happened to have a 14 inch wingspan that day. The bloom is a clear vibrant yellow with a green throat and a jagged edge. The 42 inch scapes are strong enough to support the bloom, but don't plant this one in the shade and make it reach for the sun. I've use the pollen on lots of different colored daylilies and have gotten really nice seedlings. Not only does it make a garden statement, but it's a really good parent.
