I LAVA YOU was the last daylily selected in our garden by my dear friend Steve Moldovan. I LAVA YOU is a clean bright orange with a paler orange watermark which bleeds into the petals. The striking color and great plant habit has made this daylily a consistent favorite of our garden visitors. We have gotten four to six weeks of bloom from the established clump. Bloom begins in the beginning of mid-season. The hotter the temperature the more the petals pinch. I wanted the perfect name which would honor Steve because he really liked the daylily and his Bombay Silk was a parent! When Mike Longo visited our garden, Mike shared with me that that acording to legend, the native Hawaiians say that Pele, the goddess of fire, says "I lava you" just before a volcano erupts. Since I LAVA YOU has the colors of hot lava, Roy Woodhall felt that Steve would have said "I Love It" to the name! Thank you Mike Longo for suggesting the name.
